MISHA MISHA MISHA

Michelle Aznavorian is a young entrepreneur who switched careers; advertising to fashion, barely a year ago. And thank the Goddess she did. At 25, Miss Aznavorian has a mature, intuitive sense of the ideal female form and how it is best encased for maximum flattery, maximum fashion.

Under her label Misha, says her Sweaty Betty publicist, she creates “high end fashion with a sexy edge, working by the mantra that simplicity is the ultimate in sophistication.” Which is nicely put. It’s also worth noting, Miss Aznavorian’s street radar is bulls-eye-accurate. Exemplary designs pictured below, and in our main photograph above, carefully exploit fashion’s current obsession with cross-strapped, segmented components re-assembled jig-saw-style into frocks (often mono-shoulder and strapless) and brassiere-like tops to grip and fit smooth as a second skin.

She uses a fleshy, thickish, hybrid cloth of rayon and elastane to achieve this happy bombshell-esque effect in which every womanly kink, valley and expanse of soft flesh is enhanced. Voxfrock has rarely encountered comparative glamour in such an accessible – not to mention, emerging – fashion brand.

When she left the advertising industry, Miss Aznavorian studied business at the Melbourne School of Fashion and this is perhaps our clue to another noteworthy Misha fact. Her prices are low, precisely pitched at the girl/woman demographic most likely to be suited and enamoured of the Misha look. Miss Aznavorian’s online Misha store offers items including playsuits and draped frocks, siren stiletto sandals, a particularly wonderful glass-like box purse, and the bombshell pod collection mentioned here, or less than $200; most for much less.

MISSING LINKS
The Voxfrock team was mostly absent (a master’s thesis, a proper job, exam swot, an extended overseas trip) when an elegant package branded Miss Links arrived way back in September so its contents were not discussed until now.

Cufflinks for women. The concept has a lilt of logic about it, but in practice, our first youngish Voxfrockian guinea-piglet found the stiff French cuffs needed to justify our tri-pearl Miss Links (pictured below, $165) strange and overly modest.

Our second, more mature experimenter, on the other hand, had no such reservations and fell madly in love with this apparent missing link in women’s sartorial repertoire. “I’m amazed nobody’s thought of it ’till now.” Which suggests, at least in our miniscule poll and frank post-experiment con-fab, that the market for female cufflinks’ is small and niche, defined by generation and career (mature, corporate) and aesthetic preference (masculine chic).

That said, we also vigorously agreed that this niche market is likely to go nuts for Miss Links once acquainted. For women inclined to corporate wear particularly, the tiny pearly glint or flash of emerald or ruby Swarovski crystal at the wrist is a uniquely feminine counterpoint to the necessary austerity of their wardrobe. As a pretty addition to a classic le smoking tailored ensemble, a pair of Miss Links would also be an intriguing, visual now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t tease. Voxfrock likes Miss Links.

Shop the collection (priced from $150 to $180) here www.misslinks.com and note there is a 12 per cent discount on all styles in the run-up to Christmas.
