Legendary Melbournians, fashion duo Denise Sprynskij and Peter Boyd of S!X popped up in an airy little pop up on the derrière of Georges (195 Little Collins). Pop in but best get a wiggle on; days till pop off are countable on one hand @sixlachambre #melbournefashion #legends #sixarchive #popup

Suchmuch with the laughs and joy unbridled. So nice to be among milliners, falling into each other's arms after two bleak years on zoom. In hats. I had forgotten. What an utterly lovely bunch. I joined the judges yonks ago, including the legendary Melissa Jackson, to pick the best 10 from entries around Australia. Last night the culmination - so chuffed - I presented the winner at their gala; Millinery Australia's 2022 Design Award. Darwin designer Belinda Osborne of Peacock Millinery wasn't there to bow but her exquisite "Yin Yang" headpiece of swirling lace fish - one black one white crafted to float-frame the face and respond so elegantly to the theme "Counter balance" - was. Yin Yang is modelled, FYI, by an obliging young beauty from the VRC around the mid-point of this vidlette. The last model is me, fizzing with my customary cringeknackery (whenever a lense is pointed my way) to show this treztrez gorgeous navy halo crafted by the marvellous Felicity NorthEast and lent for the night. Bon appetit. @peacockmillinery @melissajacksonmillinery @felicitynortheastmillinery @millineryaustralia @thebankoncollins #millinery #fashion #melbourne #design #fashionart #artfashion #craftsmanship #skills

Melbourne designer Erik Yvon's AFW show was an exhilarating tribute to everything he stands for: inclusivity, fashion art, free expression. Soooo Melbourne. His eponymous brand is well established, has legions of devotees yet Yvon is still described as "emerging". Why is this a Very Good Thang? Roughcut snips from a very nice soirée. Kara Baker launched her couture collection “Five Muses” at the city’s swank Next Hotel to a creamy crop of Melbourne’s fashion legends, clients and ontherisers. Mo-dells swanned along the marble in Kara’s utterlyutterly perfectly aesthetically balanced special occasion and daylight looks for women of the world before private appointments opened salon-style upstairs (book today and tomorrow at Next then at Kara’s city atelier www.karabaker.com) #lovely #melbourne #melbournestyle #fashlab #couture #couturiere #independantdesigner #melbournelegends @karabakercouture @nextmelbournehotel @fashlab.network

Love is the sweetest weirdest thing and after 39 years of marriage (total 44 years/all our adult lives) it’s a little bit spooky too. Happy birthday and happy anniversary too, to my rock my love my sometime nemesis and sparring partner my siamese self my other half. I cherry-picked all the girly bits from Photo2022. Spectrum’s cover story tomorrow tracks all the good and notso ways women are served up for our pop-cult consumption, from Helmut Newton’s babes ‘n bombshells to the gutsy-messy menstrual-bloody breastmilky truths of women now. Among my faves, Martine Gutierrez’s silly bikini shoot loaded with socio-cultural meanings, Lisa Sorgini’s unflinching lens on the “hectic mess” of motherhood, and an explosively talented nextgen including our own Atong Atem (yellow scarfed self portrait here) Kenya's Thandiwe Muriu (colors choreographed to optical shimmers) whose cameras snap and crackle with powerful feminist and post-colonial backstories. Photo2022 is the sprawling, city-wide international photography festival coming to Melbourne from April 29 - May 22. https://bit.ly/3jfFHOj #Buyapaper #TheSaturdayAge #SydneyMorningHerald #iheartnewsprint #photo2022 #atongatem #thandiwemuriu #lisasorgini #anniewangphotography #photography #art #melbournesights #melbourneevents #fashionphotography #unmissable @theageaustralia @sydneymorningherald @photofestivalau
