THURSDAY TRINITY OF (ENHANCED) FROCKY NEWS BITS
#HAUTE IN A MO
We love a nice bit of haute. The heart-fluttery gorgeousness of it all. The finicky things especially: the feathers and flowers, gauzey mousselines, galaxies of tiny beads, millions of speckle stitches. In one atelier, a hundred years of Parisien skill can be distilled for a hundred hours into a single, disarmingly lovely frock. Imagine.
Which is precisely what most of us must do. We can’t be there. And it’s precisely why the Voxfrockers hang on every word reported from the haute front line by journalists such as Tim Blanks of Style.com. The recent spring 2015 series was no exception. Mr. Blanks is a scintillating wordsmith, subtly weaving layers of intuitive and background knowledge into his sharply observed runway reviews. The Voxfrockers are besotted. Click here and here for proof of what we’re on about. See?
Voxfrock, on the other hand, is sentenced to report haute couture from a clumsier vantage, way down-downunder. We do our best; comb the shows for big picture stories, leave the pernickity detail to Mr. Blanks. We ping evidence of the trends-ongoing, for instance, and trends-in-the-bud, to which Messrs Lagerfeld, Murad, Sergeenko, Mabille, Valli, Simons, et. al. appear to have sworn allegiance. Below is our latest harvest of trends-most-likely to chug on through 2015 (despite that some have rated top-of-the-frocky-pops for several seasons already), and into 2016. Bon appetit.
#VOX SHOP – HOT FROCKS
It’s barely February and Voxfrock’s favorite fashion shops are already switching seasons. Melbourne has still to swelter through its first decent heatwave yet summer’s sale dregs are going, going, almost gone.. and winter frocks are being catwalked and racked. Winter! What an industry. Not that we are complaining: fashion’s peculiar schedule has some marvellous compensations. Sale prices of summer collection dregs IN SUMMER for instance.
Dregs, however, is the operative word here. Like most frockshoppers, the Voxfrockers are mighty fond of a discount but, frankly, find fresh hot weather frocks available in fresh hot weather, even more compelling. This week, for example, as part of our ongoing search and report of retailers offering fresh summer fashions in actual, you know, SUMMER (ie: in the hot weather) and fresh winter fashions in winter (ie: in cold weather), we were thrilled to the gills by Forever New’s February drop Belle Amour,
and Sussan stores’ Summer Remix collection.
Both refreshingly cool, bullseye fashion for stinking hot weather. We’re also applauding (brace for a little Voxfrocky indulgence) our youngest and newest intern, Emily Carruthers-Morgan’s discovery, www.hellomollyfashion.com.
It’s a newish Aussie e-tailer of very youthful, very inexpensive ($50 – $150) summer options in the knicker-flasher, playsuit and stringy-strapped genre. Currently, Hello Molly is offering free express shipping for all orders inside Australia, and any order more than $70 from the US or Canada.
#VOX SHOP – FLASH FLATS
Flats are the new black and among Voxfrock’s pick of this week’s prettiest shoppables are Boden’s jewelled pumps. Note the glint of rock and whisper of toe-cleavage; vital signs chic is firing on all cylinders. Yours for a paltry $198 at www.bodenclothing.com.au
