It’s said Melbourne is where elegance meets innovation and outside the festival’s Triumphant Runway, the Plaza teamed with proof of that truth.
Fashion enthusiasts, industry insiders, runway royalty, all bore the unique imprint of their own creative style, from exquisite craftsmanship and classic tailoring, to free and limitless expressions of those happier to dress beyond the confines of gender norms and all creative boundaries in bold colours, voluminous tulles, off-beat silhouettes.
Inside, on the Triumphant runway, it’s showtime and all eyes were on Elle.
The iconic supermodel made a triumphant return, 14 years after her last runway appearance and weeks before her 60th birthday, adding an extra layer of excitement to the night and reminding us all of her enduring allure.
The showcase rolled on like a canvas of Australian creativity and sustainability, from the whimsical charm and bold patterns of Aje to the sleek sophistication of Anna Quan‘s creations and avant-garde designs of Bianca Spender
Ngali’s collection brought First Nations’ artwork beyond wall display onto ultra-luxury garments, testament to their increasing popularity, showing up on myriad streets around the world.
Backstage, the immense level of organisation and collaborative efforts of staff from the festival’s longtime show production company, Event Gallery, are mesmerising to watch.
It’s noisy and busy and captivating all at once. It’s also where the beauty of the runway garments can be seen up close, and the diverse personalities of the models, so masked as they walk, are joyously revealed and a delight to photograph.
