THE US/EURO SPRING/SUMMER 2015 SHOW SEASON HAS FIZZLED OUT. EDITORS LEFT PARIS THIS WEEK, TUT-TUTTING ABOUT COLLECTIONS MORE “WEARABLE” THAN THEY LIKED (QUELLE HORREUR!), MORE “COMMERCIAL” THAN THEY FANCIED (MON DIEU!), MORE “SALEABLE” (NON, NON!) AND SAFE (ARRGH!) THAN THEIR USUAL IDEA OF A BONE-FIDE BOAT-FLOATER.
DESIGNERS, IN OTHER WORDS, HAD DUMPED THEIR CUSTOMARY MUSES FOR THE MORE SOBER GUIDANCE OF UNCERTAIN TIMES. WHICH IS VERY SENSIBLE, WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT, AND NOT UNCOMMON IN RECENT SEASONS.
BUT CAUTION DOES CAST A SAD PALL OVER FASHION, STALLS ITS FORWARD PROPULSION AND ROBS US ALL OF THAT UPLIFTING POST-RUNWAY FIZZ, N’EST PAS?.
HOWEVER. THERE IS AN UPSIDE IN THE WORDS “WEARABLE” AND “COMMERCIAL” AND HERE IN THE VOXFROCK OFFICE, DEAR READERS, WE SPECIALISE IN UPSIDES.
AFTER A MONTH OF TRAWLING THE RUNWAYS FROM NEW YORK TO LONDON TO MILAN TO PARIS, THE VOXFROCKERS CAN CONFIRM; SPRING/SUMMER 2015’S KEY TRENDS ARE DELICIOUSLY FAMILIAR. THEY ARE EMBEDDED IN YOUR PSYCHE, AND QUITE POSSIBLY, YOUR WARDROBE.
THEY ARE, IN OTHER WORDS, LAST SUMMER’S CUTTING EDGE TRENDS TWEAKED A LITTLE TO BECOME THIS SUMMER’S TRENDS, TWEAKED A LITTLE MORE TO BECOME, TECHNICALLY, NEXT SUMMER’S BUT, THEORETICALLY, HERE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE, THEY’RE THIS SUMMER’S….
