Spring on the new season! At least, that was the consensus among fashion bloggers invited to style their own outfits at a Melbourne Spring Fashion Week preview, a VIP Blogger Streetstyle Experience with Melbourne Central’s fashion, beauty and style retailers. Where does one begin to compose the perfect spring outfit? Skin, of course. A wonderful accessory often overlooked. First hop-stop: Kiehl’s. “When it comes to your spring beauty regime, lighter is better,” says William Goh, Kiehl’s skincare consultant. “Go for a light lotion and a BB (all-in-one beauty balm) cream to prevent build-up of products on the skin.” There’s a remedy for every skin type among Kiehl’s range of plant-based potions. Summary tip is, lighten up and keep it simple.
Now, hair? We all have it. Apparently spring(y) tresses are the go for new season style. Bloggers including Winston & Willow’s Charlotte Bridgeman and Coutouring’s Gemma Watts heartily agreed: a fresh blow wave = a fresh ‘you’. Armed with Kevin Murphy styling products, hairstylists at Evoke Hair spritzed and blow-waved some seriously sleek manes to complement any day-to-night outfit. “Softness is the key to a great spring style,” says Chika Norton, Evoke hairstylist. “Winter is all about being edgy and experimental, spring is for softness.” So, do soften up…you’ll be bouncing off the walls!
Finally, the clothes; kind of important. Melbourne Central’s Styling Hub saw spring chic bloom with an assortment of pieces gathered from retailers including Seed, Country Road, Nine West, Rodeo Show, Tony Bianco and Jolie & Deen. Resident stylist Raquel Ryan noted the importance of garment fabrication when assembling the perfect spring outfit;
“Look out for lots of pastel colours and lighter fabrics that breathe well on the body,” she says. After dabbling in dress-up heaven, each blogger’s ‘look’ was snapped by photographer Liz McLeish of Streetsmith.
There you have it; achieving effortless spring style needn’t be a bother. Lighten up, keep it simple, and soft touches make all the difference.
