FAST FASHUN is a magazine, but not your typical glossy. At the launch of its second print edition, renowned artist and co-creator Sebastian Berto ticked off its seemingly endless list of inspirations: “It specialises in fashion,” they said, “And the human body, and trash, and climate change, identity, social responsibility, current events…” .
Sebastian co-founded Fast Fashun with Teneille Clerke, a.k.a Tenfingerz who says their online and print magazine aims to; “centre queerness and social responsibility as the norm….encouraging people from all walks of life to explore their own curiosity.”
The duo says Fast Fashun is inclusive, collaborative, experimental and at its second edition launch, they encouraged guests to embrace all that and go wild, create outfits using trash, then strut the runway to show-off their off-beat, experimental masterpieces.
“Since our first release, we have seen a positive response from the LGBTQI+ community,” Tenfingerz says. “It’s really exciting!” adds Sebastian.
Fashion’s purpose, they say, is to encourage self-expression and playfulness yet; “Gender fluid clothing tends to be boring,” says Tenfingerz. A lack of diversity in the fashion industry also leads to misrepresentation of the LGBTQI+ community. “It is not an accurate representation of our community.”
FAST FASHUN addresses the imbalance, amplifies Melbourne’s marginalised voices, offers a platform to share their beliefs and opinions. Through its creative pioneers Tenfingerz and Sebastian Berto, Fast Fashun positively impacts and represents the LBGTQI+ community. Read up on the the revolution and join the fun right here.
