Fashion’s delightful Dadons, Jess and Steph of HowTwoLive are skipping town again; this time to Los Angeles where they’ll launch a new line of shoes, Twoobs, in June. “LA feels more like our place,” said the popular sisters earlier today. “New York’s more into black, but LA’s colour – and it’s a summer place.”
It’s logical progress for Jess, 22 and Steph, 27, who launched their HowTwoLive blog in Melbourne in 2012 and expanded with a move to Sydney last year. Their reach and popularity as kooky fashion icons (style with wit and sparkle) quickly rocketed into six figures on social media platforms. They have guest-edited Elle Girl Japan, been warmly feted at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York, and are working on a How To Live book, the ultimate guide to a fashionable life. Their leap beyond Australia into a global forum was always inevitable, but they’re typically relaxed about the outcome: “We’ll go (to LA) for a couple of months, see what happens.”
Twoobs will be the Dadons’ third tilt at the US market after a successful collaboration with Windsor Smith on a shoe line last year, and last week’s low-key launch of a made-to-order range of casual daywear and flatform sneakers developed with US online print studio Print All Over Me and shoe brand Buffalo.
The 10-piece How Two Live for PAOM spring pod collection is based on four “mix and clash” camouflage pattern prints (purple, pink, orange, yellow and aqua) developed by the Dadons in a fresh, tingling ice-cream pastel palette.
It includes a light sheen bomber jacket (the most expensive item at $120), pure cotton track pants, sweat top, T-shirt, leggings, body-con dress, leotard, cap and neoprene clutch. Two versions of their high-top flatform sneakers – $210 and made to a high quality standard in Buffalo’s Spanish factory – clash beautifully with the daywear options but these will only be available to order until April 30. (ie: Best get a wiggle on if you fancy a set.)
