An ethical jewellery collection by former fashion buyer Sarah Gardner, was launched in Sydney this week. Miss Gardner uses rose gold, sterling silver and white gold settings with ethically sourced natural and untreated gems including tourmaline, turquoise, chrysoprase and amethyst, delicately worked to ancient jewellery making techniques. Her first collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings is called “Dark Entries” and inspired by the ‘Art Rock Girls” of the 1980s punk movement who matured with glamour and now embody modern luxury. Aesthetic echoes of French Gothic architecture can also be detected in many pieces as well as crossed skull bones with pink sapphire eyes. MR PORTER.COM IN TOWN FOR BESPOKE.
The Australian Financial Review Magazine describes Jeremy Langmead, Editor-in-Chief of MR PORTER.COM and Imran Amed, founder of The Business of Fashion, as “global digital titans” in its announcement that they will both take the podium at its business and luxury summit, Bespoke, mentioned last week on Voxfrock.com.au. Mr. Langmead is a former editor of Esquire UK and Mr. Amed a highly respected digital media entrepreneur, commentator and consultant. TWISTED SISTERS FOR TOPSHOP.
Offbeat UK designer Jonathan William Anderson produced a capsule J.W Anderson collection to drop into local Topshop stores. Mr. Anderson’s aesthetic is variously described as “school girl”, “kinky” and “grunge twist”. His legions of girl-fans, lured since his expansion from menswear to womenswear in 2011, appear to adopt and adapt his designs to counterpoint fashion’s ongoing obsession with overt sexuality. Hence, the Topshop capsule is more Wednesday Adams than Miley Cyrus and for that reason, should sell like proverbial hotcakes. Key items include a denim kilt, neoprene pleat skirts, motif jumpers and stacked platform creepers or “flatworms”.
