FRESH FROM SPRING'S RACKS: RELAXED COOL TO HYPER GLAMOUR

One more wintry blast, we’re assured, and spring’s warm days and perfumed nights will arrive in time for the launch of Yellowglen’s Terrace marquee at Flemington this Saturday. Yes indeedy Dear Ones, we are quivering on the lip of another Spring Racing Carnival and, to add fizz to the thrill of it all, here’s the first of our series of spring trend wraps.  Spring trends are split into two silhouettes; one cool and loose with layers light enough to swing and move as you do, the other trimmed sleek and close to your curves for maximum glamour. Pick your look, then play with some of the most sophisticated, and prettiest fashions you’ve seen in years.

Boxy little frocklets, slouchy pants and slumped blazers, spidery chains, gypsy earrings that graze the shoulders, and a new crop of neat flats, cross-strapped sandals, slides, sneakers and flimsy heels are among spring’s best “updaters”, ready now to freshen your existing wardrobe whether it’s bohemian-cool, bombshell-glamourous, or both.

The waist is back, boxfrocks and flip skirts are firing, skinny denim and wide-legged trousers are equally “now”, and classic camel, airforce blue and military khaki are as strong for spring as florals, salty whites and pinks from calamine to frosted.

The collections being unpacked and racked in bricks n’ mortar and online stores now, are a vast study in styling contrasts. From the pale, easy layers (pictured below) of a Jac&Jack spring coat, for example, soft-tailored to slump elegantly down the body, to Yeojin Bae’s eye-poppingly chic Caterine dress, intricately cut to cling and reveal, Spring’s collections are a delicious buffet for girls and women of all tastes and shapes.

Watch especially for designers excelling at their craft this season: Christopher Esber’s minimalist long frocks and calf-grazer skirts, Morrison’s and Lee Matthews’ cool volumes, Nobody Jeans’ perfect washes in slashed denim, Dion Lee’s and Josh Goot’s precise engineering for showstoppers that skim glamourously around rib-cage, backside and thighs.
