CLAIRE Q
Modeling since the age of twelve, Claire Quirk has clocked up a length of runway experience to match her lovely long legs. But, it was in the lead up to her sweet sixteen that the Chadwick model’s hemlines made the most memorable headlines when Melbourne Spring Fashion Week organisors appointed her the event’s “face”, only to veto the decision because she was deemed too young. Their loss. This lass, with equal parts beauty and brains, has been kicking goals ever since, modeling for top designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and on the pages of international glossies, all the while juggling studies and graduating from university with honors to become a darling of the new generation graphic design set. There’s nothing quirky about Claire’s flair for accomplishment….
Favorite coffee spot/restaurant?
My favourite restaurant would have to be Sushi Kuu in Hong Kong. The style is authentic and they are very serious about their food, but without being arrogant or pretentious.
Heels or flats?
I love wearing heels, but because I am on my feet and walking so much, comfort is a huge factor for me. I usually have a pair of shoes that I adore and wear them to death. Right now I’m still on my Acne boots, but will need to have the heels repaired soon.
Anything you would like people to know about you that they may not already? (eg: “I have six toes…Was national pie eating champion…Collect taxidermy…).
I grew up in Asia, going to primary and secondary school in Malaysia and then Singapore. I was scouted at the age of 12 and began working as a model at the age of 13.
Where haven’t you traveled but still keen to visit?
I would really love to go to Berlin this year. My brother went last year and visited Spreepark, a derelict amusement park that is now covered in street art and being reclaimed by nature. Abandoned buildings are so intriguing and the decay is darkly beautiful.
Favorite holiday destination?
Last year I traveled around Mexico and visited some beautiful and inspiring places including Tulum, Acapulco and San Miguel. I had such an amazing time. I love the culture of Mexico, the food, the art, the vibrant way of life.
Beauty regime?
Keep it simple. My skin is always best when I do the least to it. I use micellar water to cleanse my skin every day.
Stay in shape?
I love to swim, and I walk as a mode of transport as much as possible. I rarely eat processed foods.
If not modeling, what?
I have a Bachelor of Design and am working as a graphic designer and illustrator alongside of modelling. Recently I have been working on a variety of personal and commercial projects including textile prints and large scale murals.
This year’s hottest trend will be…?
I hope that it will be embracing a softer, more natural aesthetic, in various fields of design, not just fashion. I love texture, and organic patterns and prints. Experimental treatments with unexpected outcomes. Additionally, I hope that there will be a shift in preference from fast, disposable fashion and consumables to high quality, fairly manufactured goods that last and are treasured for a long time.
Favorite perfume?
At the moment I’m wearing Scent by Costume National but prior to this one I wore Tom Ford fragrances. I love Violet Blonde, Ombre de Hyacinth and White Suede.
