Frederic Tcheng‘s relentlessly intimate stake out of Belgian minimalist, Raf Simons‘ first haute couture season at Christian Dior in 2012 is mesmerising from the moment he meets – so nervous he quickly abandons his stumbling French – the veteren craftsmen and women of this iconic Parisien atelier.
How will he fare (how? how?) in the intense glare of global scrutiny: a veritable minimalist to his infamous predecessor, John Galliano‘s ostentatious showman? Well, brilliantly, natch (we know that) but we didn’t know it then, did we? The filmed unfolding of Monsieur Raf’s first Dior collection is every fashion tragic’s dream date.
