Glamping at GLAMP, Level 2, 267 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. Phone (03) 9650 2811.
Voxfrock’s social calendar has been a sad single sheet for weeks, what with a certain frockerama going off in Sydney, then The Deluge, and finally, the wintry bite of bitter cold in Melbourne. When the trickle of invites did thicken; we missed one do, cancelled two, were laid up and feeling poorly for three more. It’s cosy at home, we discovered, and too-too easy to slip into a telly-and-early-night holding pattern. Consequently, this is our first Cheese! social post for so-long-we’ve-lost-track but, it won’t be the last this winter. The launch of swankish new, African-inspired bar Glamp, was warm and bright and enticing enough to lure the laziest Voxfrocker out of the Uggs and off the couch.
Glamp is the brainchild of hospitality entrepreneurs and avid travellers Dean and Janelle Mariani.
They fashioned it after their love of “glamping” or, “glamourous camping” and their memories of trekking through the exotic wilds of East Africa. The bar is unique for its African cocktails (concocted by renowned mixologist Ben Hehir, poached from London) and range of African beers served in three distinct embracingly comfortable, richly coloured, dramatically decorated lounges. Legions of The Usual Social Suspects attended its launch this week, as well as these delightful girls and chappies and many lovely others… (Main photo, top: Katherine Ng and Amanda Wong.)
