REYKJAVIK
Former Melbourne boy genius Sruli Recht whipped up another tea-cuppy storm from his home in Reykjavik, Iceland, with the release of a new line of wallets fashioned from the foreskins of minke whales. “A single piece leather wallet, laser cut from Minke Dork skin, folded into shape and hand-tethered with black oxidized rivets”, to be precise. Affectionately dubbed the “Dork Whalet”, Mr. Recht’s invention sells online for around $2,500, a snack price when you consider no two foreskins are alike: “As with a fingerprint, each Minke Dork has a unique hue, pattern and texture, ranging from a smooth sheen to a coarse cracked hide. Upon ordering, a series of images of each available finish will be presented for selection.” Mr. Recht, an award-winning graduate of RMIT, was already a notable fashion fledgeling when he left Melbourne for far horizons several years ago. His predilections for impeccable tailoring and bizarre interpretations of fashion’s purpose here on earth are equally powerful and open to perusal on his website. His one-only 24 carat “Forget Me Knot” pinkie ring set with a sliver of his very own hairy belly skin – described as Anthropodermic leather – for example, is a marvellous case in point, offered for sale around$600,000 with authenticating DNA certificate and video of the surgical removal.
Voxfrock sincerely hopes a visionery gallery or museum will snap up the pinkie or other artful result of Mr. Recht’s crackling synapses, before his reputation bounds in leaps out of their budget for new and remarkable talent.

Legendary fashion identity Roy Christou launched his second Honor Among Thieves streetwear store in Chapel Street, South Yarra, with a jammed back-lane party teaming with Melbourne’s Cool-Listers. Arriving guests were lined up and mug-shot like thieves before being plyed with the usual sensory condiments including Quiet Deeds Pale Ale, Greek Deli and Tavern can-apes and toons by uber DJs Mike Wale and Matthew Moopie..
Mr. Christou’s Roy jeans brand was among the world’s most hotly pursued in its heyday; now Honor Among Thieves’ jeans, shirts, knits, jackets and skirts are fashioned with similarly low-key-cool-tech finishes, washes and obsessively fine but relaxed quality, in a street aesthetic that can be styled clean and preppy, or a whisker short of grunge depending on a girl’s or chap’s taste and attitude.

CHADSTONE
New Zealand sportswear brand Icebreaker broke into 44 markets around the world without too much drama since its birth 19 years ago. This week it cemented its place in Australia with a flagship store in the Chadstone Fashion Capital. A small company of buff boys in thermal undies and pretty girls in ski tights performed a rocky little ice-breaker before Jeremy Moon, the personable young New Zerlernder who launched the brand in 1994 at the tender age of 24, delivered a chummy summary of its life and times. Two of his many points were particularly salient: that Icebreaker spends less than one per cent of sales on advertising so, like Topshop, it relies on word-of-mouth and social media to spread the love, and BaaCode, launched in 2008, is a tricky tracker enabling wearers to follow their jacket or pants back, back back through every step of its unbelieveably ethical, sustainable manufacturer, to the very (Merino) sheep who sacrificed its wool that fateful original summer.
Equally salient was the wide band of demographics represented by guests at the launch, who fell on Icebreaker’s spankikng new racks of active sports, travel, fashion and casual wear in a near-frenzy of love and hunger for the once-in-a-lifetime one-night-only discounts. There is nobody, apparently, who doesn’t have good reason to wear an Icebreaker.
