Last night, David Jones showcased Australia’s finest including Michael Lo Sordo, Scanlan Theodore, Romance Was Born and Thurley. Frow (front row)? Brow (back row)? Who cares…VAMFF is here again folks!

Distilled in the chatter of an exuberant crowd, fizzing champagne was hushed by a drumming pulse as David Jones ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox sauntered forth in tribal Camilla kaftans. Bohemian visions of fearless femininity. What followed was an edit of  “I really-really-really-need-that-in-my-wardrobe-like-now” casual daywear collections from Bassike, Jac +Jack and Sabatini, curated with an emphasis on chunky knits and monochrome layering.

“Is that half a skirt and half a pant?” pondered Lady Melbourne’s Phoebe Montague when a perplexingly ingenius Christopher Esber (‘Skant’/ ‘Panirt’?) creation appeared. Indeed, the conventions and cuts of traditional tailoring were challenged in shift dresses and suits by Nicola Finetti and Camilla and Marc; the former offering an illusionistic interplay between pattern and symmetry.

With prints kept to a minimum, Ellery and Willow’s aerodynamic frocks fluttered hearts with weightless, cascading forms (a magic exceeding bias cutting, surely?) Conversely, Strateas Carlucci demonstrated the perks of borrowing from brothers and boyfriends (sort of), empowering silhouettes with deep V-neck styles and wide leg proportions.

And Voxfrock never forgets the gents… Tiger of Sweden reinterpreted 1960s ‘Rat Pack’ suit styles (yes, that’s vest, tie AND jacket for the dapper gent), while Jack London and Calibre remained true to form; that is, really ridiculously good looking, with a series of ‘hero’ blazers in wool and dazzling gold fabrications.

We love nothing more than cluster of home-grown design talents nestled under one roof. We love a good party too. Oh and we also love a good selfie…(Do we? – we’re coming round on that one.)
Put your best frocks forward…VAMFF IS GO!
