MARC AND MUICCIA PEPPING UP THE RUNWAYS
THREE DOWN, Paris to go. The Voxfrock team was slogging through our seasonal fadwrap of New York, London, and Milan spring/summer 2014 runways when we found ourselves in furious agreement about two particular heart-strummers.
WE THINK Marc Jacobs in New York, and Muiccia Prada in Milan have, so far, best nailed the switch from NOW to a (near) FUTURE aesthetic, and plugged most snugly into the current, nervy global Zeitgeist. Mr. Jacob’s thickly embellished and bulging top silhouettes over knee shorts, mid-calf skirts and flat, sexless shoes, and Mrs. Prada’s shamozzle of graphic mural-esque girl-portraits and heavy brassiere tops worn over or built in to tailored coats and frocks, pleated skirts and ribbed demi-leggings, spoke the same endearing F… You! fashion language.
“IT’S MORE ABOUT THE ART of fashion itself, less about sex, more about pleasing yourself than looking sexy, or wobbling around on stupid shoes or wearing a skirt or shorts up around your a… to please someone else,” explained intern Terry Carruthers on behalf of us all. Other Voxfrockians pointed out the screaming, I don’t care! I love it! skew of recent car commercials, for example, as another indication of the F… You! vibe mushrooming in popular culture and destined to affect future fashion. See if you agree. Check the full Prada (top gallery, pictured) offering here, and Marc Jacobs’ here.
AND WATCH for Voxfrock’s fadwrap and more on the new sexlessness in coming weeks.
